The Staff and Doctors at Barrier Reef Medical Centre would like to advise that we offer vaccinations for a severe form of bacterial meningitis called Nisseria Meningitis “B type”. We know that many people do not understand that “Meningococcal” disease actually refers to infection of several possible strains of bacteria that routine vaccination in Australia has until recently not covered, the “C type” for infants and the “ACW and Y” types for adolescents. That unfortunately leaves out the “B Type” vaccine, that protects against one of the most commonly seen infectious bacterial meningitis strains in our population.
Infants can be protected from the B strain with vaccination from 2 months old and children and older teens can be protected as well.
If you are interested in speaking with our Doctors and Nurses about the Meningitis B vaccine, or any other wide variety of vaccinations we offer, please call and make an appointment with your GP.
We look forward to hearing from you.
Our Flu vaccines are due to arrive later March, early April 2018
